Pyrenees skiing

Eeek time is flying by! It feels like it's been forever ago but just this past weekend I went skiing in the Pyrenees. I went with my friend payton and some locals from Bilbao. It was about a 4 hour drive and when we got to the mountain I was very confused because I barely saw any snow. After some reassurance they explained that we just needed to take the lift over the mountain to the other side of the peaks. Once we did that we actually saw a decent amount of snow and the sun was shining down. It was absolutely breathtaking and the sun provided a nice warmth. I didn't have much snow gear since rentals were so expensive (had a helmet and gloves of course) and so the sun made the lack of a ski jacket very pleasant. That day we skied for almost the entire day and then I had one of the best burgers of my entire life. I overall was pretty slow at skiing but had been able to pick some of my technique back up from middle school and high school. That night we went to an outdoor concert inside the ski resort and it was really cool. On both sides I could see the mountains as we listened to songs (mostly american) and drank frothy beer.

Sunday was a completely different day. The first hour was not bad, other than it was a tiny bit chilly. Hour 2 absolutely poured and without goggles I could not see anything in front of me. I just laughed the entire way down the mountain becuase I was so nervous about blindly skiing. The nice thing was that the rain left the mountain very empty and so I wasn't too afriad of hitting anyone. We finally took a break and had hot chocolate and pastries. Interestingly, the hot chocolate in Spain is more like a pudding that you would dip your churros in and so it felt like I was drinking pudding.

The weekend: 9/10, skiing was exhausting but absolutely exhilarating and I was proud that I was able to not fall down the mountain. To be fair I was gong so slow I didn't fall at all! The rain did make it hard on Sunday, so I am glad it only lasted a short amount of time because I would not have been able to survive a full day in the rain!!
