Spring break has officially begun! Two whole weeks off of school and plenty of time to travel. The first 3 days so far have been spent on the Spanish Island of Mallorca. I was curious to see how a Spanish island would feel, and I will say it definitely feels like an island. 4 of us, 3 Bilbao kids and 1 San Sebastián kid all enjoying the palm trees and semi warm weather. The weather has been sitting at about 60 degrees but the wind does make it feel a bit chillier. We have experienced a teeny bit of rain, but only really today when we visited another little city. We are staying in the Northern part of Mallorca called port de pollenca. All of us college kids are balling on a budget (a very low budget but worth it) and have only eaten out once for the days we have been here, as we have been resourceful with going to the grocery store and whipping up pasta and tacos.
Sunday and Monday were spent mostly on the beach. This was partly because we told ourselves that for a few days we were going to be bums and just lay in the sun. We did indulge in a few tropical drinks and watched the water. The water was insane and a striking crystal blue, with small little sailboats slowly gliding through. To be completely honest, Sunday and Monday mostly blended together.
Today, we ventured out into a nearby cute town called Alcudia. I wasn't completely sure what to expect and the town completely exceed my expectations. The town was absolutely gorgeous and somehow we refrained from buying any sweets or souvenirs. For a while we walked in the historic center and then walked along the water. One thing that really stuck out to me was the amount of cats I saw. Everywhere I turned they appeared. The only time I didn't see them was when it was pouring and we had to hide under doorways to avoid being dumped on. I definitely would go back to that little town again when it was warmer and definitely spend more time in the market we passed through.
Overall, Mallorca has been an 8/10 and I only take away 2 points because the tropical drinks were too expensive. The 8 points were well deserved and I would definitely visit Mallorca again! Next stop: Nice, France.
